Q: What is an FAQ?
A: FAQ stands for Frequently asked questions. Hopefully this document will help you with any problems that have thus far been encountered and solved.
Q: What hardware do I need?
A: We’ve developed the technology to work on almost any computer (>Pentium) with internet access (minimum 56.6 kps, but preferably high-speed DSL or cable).
Q: What software do I need?
A: The new COOL display allows for cross browser compatibility. To find out more on how to make your browser compatible please visit our compatibility page.
For the best results the following should be installed (for PC):

Q: How do i improve the viewing experience?
A: One way to maximize the size of the recording, simply use the fullscreen button which can be found to the right of the time indicator in the player controls. This is will force the player into fullscreen mode and can be easily disabled by hitting 'Escape'. Removing the clicking sounds will also improve the experience and the details on how to achieve this are covered in the next question.
Q: I keep hearing a clicking sound during the lecture.
A: Those sounds are controlled on you're computer and is caused by going from one webpage to the next. To disable the 'clicks';
Q: I have a Macintosh is there anything I can do to view the lectures?
A: Yes, installation of silverlight will work in both Firefox as well as Safari on a Mac
Q: I downloaded everything but I can’t get access to my class lectures, what am I doing wrong?
A: Please report the problem at our HELPDESK. We will auto-detect the necessary software to discover if anything is missing. This will help us in discovering what the problem might be.
Q: I clicked on the lecture but nothing is happening. What’s wrong?
A: Make sure you’ve installed the latest version of silverlight, which can be obtained at the following address:
Q: When I click on the lecture, the player pops up at the bottom but I can’t reach the play button, what can I do?
A: This problem occurs when you are running at a resolution of 640x480. The controls can be accessed by right clicking on any part of the player. From the menu choose “Play…” to start the lecture.
Q: I can’t see all of the pictures, some are just blank… Is there anything I can do?
A: Please feel free to email us if MANY of the frames are missing. The occasional missing picture may occur.
Q: I really need to review lectures but:
So what can I do?
A1: If you are a science student you can obtain an Infopoint account which allows access to over 100 computers across campus, all of which are setup to run the Courses Online web lectures. Please see the McGill Science Computer Taskforce for information about account creation or computer locations across campus.
A2: Students from other departments should contact their IT department for information about access. Please feel free to email us with any information about obtaining this access so that other students can take advantage of these services. Students from other faculties can also purchase accounts from the McGill Science Computer Taskforce please view their website (http://taskforce.sus.mcgill.ca) for more information.
Q: Why don’t my other classes have their lectures online?
A: Good question… If you think another class you are taking is a good candidate, please email us with the name of the Prof. Along with any contact information that might help.
